The N440K variant of SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes Covid-19 disease, is not new and is now diminishing, the Centre for Cellular & Molecular Biology (CCMB) said on Wednesday.

Dismissing some media reports suggesting that the N440K variant was responsible for the second wave of Covid-19, the scientists at the CCMB said that this variant was found in South India last year.
